Winter Willows

winter willows
are you frozen in time?
remember; you are ready to sprout green leaves.
have you already forgotten
that sunshine rests around the corner?
that your roots in the ground will soon get warmer?
have you forgotten
to let your deadness shed
from off of your trunk?
to shed your bark is to be reborn, so don't be afraid
of your nakedness, even though it’s cold.
and they will stare
because you’ve changed
(you look different)
but soon your skin will be thicker and surer,
and soon, you’ll remember that if it hadn’t been for the winter’s snow
you would have never grown so tall.
